Reading

Read the passage with your teacher.
선생님과 함께 지문을 읽어보세요.

How many friends do you have? Do you think it's better to have many
friends or just a few close ones? Do you believe that your friends would remain
friendly if you were in trouble? Many people say, "A friend can't be known in
prosperity." When people say this, they usually emphasize that the conclusion came
from their own experience. Often if a friend is in a difficult situation, his or her friends
become estranged. If this is true, friendship is determined by social status, not
personality. Many people hesitate to accept this, but nobody can deny that the
assumption proves true in too many cases. So we can conclude that friendship can
be formed not only by personality and common interests, but also by social and
financial status. It seems tragic, but this is human nature.
