Positive Question

NOTE:Be careful with word order – the subject is after the first verb.
Examples
Where has Gary gone? (not Where has gone Gary?)
When was the telephone invented?

Simple present questions
Do I/we/you/they work/live/eat, etc.
Does he/she/it work/live/eat, etc.
Simple past questions
Did you/she/they (etc.) work/live/eat, etc.
Positive Question
They work hard. Do they work hard?
Jeff has a car. Does Jeff have a car?
You had dinner. What did you have for dinner?
Sometimes do is the main verb. (do you do/did he do, etc.)
What do you usually do on weekends?
What does your brother do?
How did you do that?
Why + Negative (Questions)
Why isn’t he answering the phone? (not Why he isn’t answering…)
Why can’t she come to the party tomorrow? (not Why she can’t…)
Why didn’t you call me last night?
Note: When using the verb “did”, always use the base form of the verb. Same with
“do” and “does”.
Danny: I went to bed early last night. I was very tired from soccer practice.
Ryan: What time did you go to bed?
Danny: Around 8:00.
Ryan: Wow, that’s really early. Good for you. So, can you go the party tonight?
Danny: Oh, yes. I really want to. How about you?
Ryan: I can’t go to the party.
Danny: Why can’t you go to the party?
Ryan: I have to go with my father to my uncle’s house. My uncles lives in the country.
Danny: What does your uncle do?
Ryan: He’s a corn planter.
Danny: Too bad you will miss the party.
Ryan: Yeah, I know.
