Yesterday morning Johnnie was working at the bookshop when he heard a loud noise. He looked out the window and saw something that horrified him. A large bus just crashed into a truck. The driver of the bus had tried to avoid hitting a boy riding his bicycle in the street. He had turned sharply and crashed into a truck parked on the side of the street.
Johnnie saw at least ten people getting out of the bus and heard them calling for help. He ran across the street to give assistance. Suddenly he felt someone grab his arm. It was an old lady who had been in the bus. She had lost her handbag and was terribly upset. Johnnie looked for the handbag and found it lying near the bus. He was about to return it to the lady when a police officer came up behind him. The officer asked Johnniw if there was a telephone by the cash register. The officer ran over to the bookshop and called an ambulance.
Johnnie felt smoke getting in his eyes and took off his glasses. A few minutes later an ambulance came and took some people to the hospital for X-rays. A couple of people were slightly injured in the accident, but no one was seriously hurt. Suzy Suzuki, a reporter for a local TV news station, came and interviewed a few people at the scene of the accident. Johnnie Wilson was among them.
