Liza said to Mary, "Why don't you buy some new clothes?"
Liza suggested (that) Mary buy some new clothes.The subjunctive is always the same as the base form (I buy, he buy, she buy, etc.)

suggest propose recommend insis demandExamples:
1. I suggest (that) you take a vacation.
2. The doctor recommended (that) I rest for a few days.
3. They insisted (that) we have dinner with them.
4. I insisted (that) he have dinner with us.
5. He demanded (that) she apologize to him.The negative is not + the base form (I not be, you not leave, she not go, etc.):
* The doctor recommended that I not go to work for two days.
* They insisted tha he not bring them a present.You can use the subjunctive for the present, past or future:
* I insist (that) you come with us.
* They insisted (that) I go with them.Note the subjunctive be (often passive):
* I insisted (that) something be done about the problem.
* The chairperson proposed (that) the plans be changed.
* The airline recommends that passengers be two hours early.C. Other structures are possible after insist and suggest:
* They insisted on my having dinner with them.
* It was a beautiful evening, so I suggested going for a walk.You cannot use the infinitive after suggest:
* She suggested that he buy some new clothes (not suggested him to buy).
* What do you suggest I do? (not suggest me to do)

The Hopi of Arizona The Hopi lived in the northeastern part of Arizona in the United States.The United States is a very modern country.Tall buildings, highways, computers, and hundreds of other modern things are a part of every American's life. They live in traditional stone houses, but many of them have telephones, radios, and television.They have horses, but they have pickup trucks too.Kachinas are an important part of the Hopi religion.Kachinas are spirits of dead people, of rocks, plants, and animals, and of the stars.Men dress as kachinas and do religious dances.People also make wooden kachinas.No two wooden kachinas are ever alike.The children attend school and learn English and other subjects.A few Hopi go to universities.Some of the adults live and work in nearby towns.The children attend school, and they also learn the Hopi language, dances, and stories.The Hopi want a comfortable, modern life, but they don't want to lose their traditions.
