DAY 5: EXPRESS AN OPINION
SAMPLE QUESTION:Some people think that women are still discriminated against in the workplace and that’s why some women are having a hard time getting employed. Do you agree or disagree? Why?
1. The teacher will ask the student to determine what type the given question is.
A. Which do you prefer? B. Agree or disagreeC. What is your opinion?
2. Ask the student to choose what subject that is related to the question that he or she can answer easily.
3. The teacher can give an example of an introductory sentence. There are different ways in stating your opinion and the student would need to create sentences that would answer the question using the samples given.

Step 1 Begin your answer by rephrasing the question: I do agree that women are still discriminated against in the workplace.
Step 2 First point: According to a survey made by the American government, women are said to have 10-20% lower salary than men.
Step 3 Supporting reason: Studies and statistics about gender discrimination in the workplace both reveal that women make less money than men, and are less likely to be promoted based solely on their work.
Step 4 Opposing Point: There may not be gender discrimination in all work environments. However, statistics do prove that overall, gender discrimination still occurs in most workplaces
Step 5 Restate your stand and conclusion: and I agree that women are the ones discriminated against more.
TEST TECHNIQUES:
To answer the question correctly you must first understand the task. Quickly read the question and summarize it into one single question.Decide on your answer and plan your supporting points (during the 15 sec preparation time).
Choose an opinion and stay with it. Show what it is you are agreeing to, preferring, or supporting by restating the relevant part of the question in your first sentence.

한국어에서는 "동의하다"가 동사이므로 영어에서도 "agree"를 동사로 바로 사용해야 합니다. "agree"는 그 자체가 동사이기 때문에 앞에 "am"을 붙이면 틀린 문장이 됩니다. 마찬가지로 "I am disagree"도 틀린 표현이며, "I disagree"가 올바른 표현입니다.
