DAY 1: READ A TEXT A LOUD
A. PRONUNCIATION:
1. The teacher will highlight all the content words (noun, main verb, adjective and adverb) and read the each word.
2. The student will listen and repeat after the teacher.
3. The teacher would need to take note of the words that the student is having a hard time pronouncing and ask the student to repeat reciting those words.
Sample 1: Ladies and gentlemen,/ welcome onboard Flight AZ 149 / with service from Manila to Bangkok.//Wewill be taking-off shortly,/ in approximately five minutes. // If your seatbelts are not fastened / we ask that youdo so now.// Make sure all your baggage/ is underneath your seat / or in the overhead compartments. // We also ask / that your seats and table trays / are in the uprightposition for take-off.// Please turn off all personal electronic devices, / including laptops / and cellphones.//
Sample 2: Is everyone/ ready to continue the tour of Hollywood horrors?//Great!/ If you look to your left,/ you will seeRivergate Drive’s/ notorious house of murder.// The house is said / to be haunted with the ghosts / of late actor Tim Cruz, / his wife Katherine, / and their 5 year old daughter,/ Sara.// All three were found dead/ in an apparent murder suicide.// It is said/ that if you chant“Give me the money,”three times, / leave the guest room closet open, / or use the upstairs master bath,/ the family will visit you at midnight.//
B. PAUSING:
1. The teacher will read the given paragraph with proper pausing.
2. The student will listen first to the teacher then he/she will repeat what the teachers read.

C. STRESS (ACCENT):
1. The teacher will read the words that are highlighted. These words are the ones that needs more accent or stress. (Last name of a person, location, time, anything with numbers, website, combined words)
2. The student will listen and repeat after the teacher.

D. STRESS:
1. Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ "We will be taking-off short-ly." (강세를 잘못 넣어 "short"와 "ly"를 따로 읽음)
✅ "We will be taking off SHORT-ly." (shortly는 첫 음절에 강세, 한 단어로 자연스럽게)

TOEIC Speaking 낭독 문제에서 부사의 강세 위치는 매우 중요합니다. 한국어는 음절마다 비슷한 세기로 발음하지만, 영어에서는 'shortly', 'approximately'처럼 특정 음절에 강세를 확실히 줘야 합니다. 특히 안내 방송문에서 부사가 자주 나오므로, 강세 음절을 또렷하게 읽고 나머지는 약하게 처리하는 연습이 필요합니다.
