DAY 3:
A. RESPOND TO QUESTIONS ( Interview type of questions so answers should be personal)
1. The teacher will ask the student to give the keywords related to the question.2. The student will rephrase the given question.3. The teacher will give related WH- and HOW questions and the student will practice rephrasing those questions.4. After practicing the student will give a direct answer to the given question, as a start the student would need to rephrase the question.5. The teacher will then ask the student to give additional details or supporting reasons related to their answer.6. For Question 6, the student’s answer should end with a conclusion.

Question 4 :What are you looking for if you were to purchase new housing?STEP 1: Begin your answer by rephrasing the question: The most important thing I would be looking for is affordability. STEP 2: Add extra details but remember to keep it relevant:These days housing is quite expensive so price is very important to me. Owning my own home is one of my dreams.
Question 5 : How important is being close to public transportation to you?
STEP 1: Begin your answer by rephrasing the question: It is very important to me because I do not own a car.
STEP 2: Add extra details but remember to keep it relevant: Without access to public transportation, it would be difficult to get to my job and do my shopping.
Question 6 :Briefly describe your current housing
STEP 1: Begin with an introduction sentence that includes words from thequestions: Currently, I live in a house with two floors.
STEP 2: Describe and give a reason why you chose this thing/ place/ person: There are two bedrooms, one bathroom and it can accommodate up to four people.It also has a nice kitchen area and has a wide living room area, wide enough for us to have our friends over.
STEP 3: Conclusion:It has a small fenced-in yard where I keep a garden.
TEST TECHNIQUES:
Listen carefully and pick out the key words in the question.If you need a few more minutes to think, start your answer by rephrasing the words from the question.Give a full answer. Add extra details or examples.Ask yourself what kind of question it is (to describe or to give an opinion) and decide on your focus.Follow an appropriate organization model for the question.Link your ideas together, and if you need time to think, use English hesitation devices.
B. RESPOND TO QUESTION USING THE INFORMATION PROVIDED

1. The teacher will ask the WH and HOW questions related to the chart and the student will answer. This is to give a clear understanding on how to answer natural questions.
e.g Could you tell me what time it starts and how long it will last? When does it start? How long is it? Where will it take place?
2. The teacher will read and describe all the times, dates and all the information in the chart in chronological order and the student will repeat after the teacher. (The are different ways of reading times and dates, there is no right and wrong way it is a matter of personal choice)
3. The teacher will give a sample sentences that will start with the given appropriate phrases to refer to the agenda. The teacher can give the following phrases that the student can use. (These phrases can be used for Q7 and Q9 for their starting sentence)
e.g Yes, certainly, I’ll just take a look for you… Let me just check the agenda… Of course, let me see now…
4. The student will then repeat the sentences given by the teacher for practice and then will create their own sentences.
5. The teacher will give a sample sentences that will start with the given appropriate phrases to introduce bad news. The teacher can give the following phrases that the student can use. (These phrases can be used for Q8 as their starting sentence)
e.g I’m sorry, but... I'm sorry but I’m afraid that ...
I apologize..
6. The student will then repeat the sentences given by the teacher for practice and then will create their own sentences.
7. Key notes are important so if it is given in the chart then the student will need to include it in their answer.
8. The teacher should remind the student that listening is very important and that for them to answer the questions correctly identifying the key words will help.

“Hello, I’m Dr. Park. I’m inquiring about the Doctorpedia Conferences that will be held in 2012. I have a few questions about the schedule.”
Q7: (Simple Inquiry type of question)Question 7: I live in the Chicago area, so do you have any conferences being held here?
STEP 1: Begin your answer by rephrasing the question: Yes, we do.
STEP 2: Add extra details but remember to keep it relevant:We have a conference being held in June, from the 19th-24th.
Q8: (Wrong Information)Question 8: I was told that you won’t have any conference by February. Is this true?
Step 1 Check the information and answer the question: I’m sorry that you were misinformed,Step 2 Give the correct information:we do have a conference in Kansas City, February 15-20 we have one in Portland, and February 23-29, a conference in Seattle.
Q9: (Giving Full Details)
Question 9: If I attend the conference scheduled on February, how much is the conference fee, and when is the deadline?
STEP 1: Begin your answer by rephrasing the question: The conference fees are $300.STEP 2: Give the needed information: The deadline is one month before the first day of the conference so for the Kansas City conference,STEP 3: Give extra details that are relevant to the question: you must confirm by January 2nd, for Portland Conference is January 15th and for the Seattle Conference, you must confirm your attendance by January 23rd.
TEST TECHNIQUES:
Read the heading to find out what the topic is. Identify types of information provided.
Identify the details of the information according to possible WH- AND HOW questions and think about your answers.
Describe what’s happening at different times of the day.Look for any notes that gives extra information about the agenda.Listen for key words in the question to identify which section you will be discussing. Prepositions and times will tell you which information you must include.(e.g in the morning, after lunch or before 2:00)
You should respond as though you are actually talking to a person.

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ "If I buy a house, the most important thing is cheap price."
✅ "If I were to purchase new housing, the most important thing I would look for is affordability."

한국어에서는 "싼 가격"이라고 직역하기 쉽지만, 영어에서 'cheap'은 '질이 낮은'이라는 부정적 뉘앙스를 줄 수 있습니다. TOEIC Speaking에서는 'affordability'나 'reasonable price'처럼 격식 있는 표현을 사용하는 것이 좋습니다. 또한 질문을 다시 말할 때(rephrasing) 원래 질문의 가정법 구조("if you were to")를 살려서 답변하면 더 높은 점수를 받을 수 있습니다.
