DAY 1: READ A TEXT A LOUD
A. PRONUNCIATION:
1. The teacher will highlight all the content words (noun, main verb, adjective and adverb) and read the each word.
2. The student will listen and repeat after the teacher.
3. The teacher would need to take note of the words that the student is having a hard time pronouncing and ask the student to repeat reciting those words.
Sample 1: You have reached / the office of Smith,/ Wesson and Gatling,/→ Certified Public Accountants.// Thank you for calling / but we are unable/ to answer the phone/ at this moment.// Our normal business hours are/ Monday through Friday,/ 9 am to 5 pm.// Appointments are required for most meetings. // In case of emergency,/ after working hours or / on weekends, / you may call 478-8212/ and we will try to get back to you / as soon as possible.//

B. PAUSING:
1. The teacher will read the given paragraph with proper pausing.
2. The student will listen first to the teacher then he/she will repeat what the teachers read.

1. The teacher will read the words that are highlighted. These words are the ones that needs more accent or stress. (Last name of a person, location, time, anything with numbers, website, combined words)
2. The student will listen and repeat after the teacher.

D. STRESS:
1. 2. The teacher will read the sentences and the student will need to listen to the teacher first then repeat.

4. The student will need to read the whole paragraph with the proper pronunciation, accent and stress.

❌ "Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday, nine A-M to five P-M." (모든 단어를 같은 강세로 평평하게 읽기)
✅ "Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday, nine A-M to five P-M." (내용어에 강세를 주어 읽기)

한국어는 영어처럼 강세 차이가 크지 않아서, 영어를 읽을 때 모든 단어를 같은 세기로 발음하는 경향이 있습니다. TOEIC Speaking의 낭독 문제에서는 명사, 동사, 형용사, 부사 등 내용어(content words)에 강세를 주고, 관사·전치사·접속사 같은 기능어(function words)는 약하게 읽어야 자연스럽고 높은 점수를 받을 수 있습니다. 평평하게 읽으면 "로봇처럼 들린다"는 감점 요인이 됩니다.
