Whenever possible, address your letter to a specific person. If a job posting doesn't include a person's name, do some research to find out who the correct person is. Try calling the employer (but do respect ads that state no phone calls, and ask a receptionist for the hiring manager's name. Keep the salutation professional by using
Mr. Jones, not Dear Jim.

한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ Dear to Mr. Kim, I am writing this letter for apply the position.
✅ Dear Mr. Kim, I am writing to apply for the position.

한국어에서 '~에게'라는 표현 때문에 Dear 뒤에 'to'를 넣는 실수를 자주 합니다. 영어에서는 Dear 다음에 바로 이름이 옵니다. 또한 'for apply'가 아니라 'to apply for'가 올바른 표현입니다. 커버레터의 인사말(salutation)은 격식을 갖추되, 불필요한 전치사를 넣지 않도록 주의하세요.
