Reading

Read the passage with your teacher.
선생님과 함께 지문을 읽어보세요.

Disclosure Hints
1. Interviewing is BETWEEN two parties.
2. Interviews revolve around a SHARING of information.
3. The PROGRESS OF THE INTERVIEW can determine where the interviewer is headed, and you can choose to disclose more (or less).
4. The old adage "LEAVE 'EM WANTING MORE" is relevant when interviewing. Also, as in advertising and marketing, you don't have to give every detail of a product to induce a sale - just enough salient points to satisfy the buyers' demands.
5. Regardless of the circumstances, NEVER LIE about circumstance, employment records, or personal history. It is a small world and the facts come to light eventually (or you will get an ulcer worrying about their discovery).
6. Inteviewers may be dealing with DISCLOSURE ISSUES too. They may be privy to information that cannot be shared.

Korean Trap! / 한국인 실수 교정

Common mistakes Korean speakers make when discussing information disclosure.
정보 공개에 대해 이야기할 때 한국인이 자주 하는 실수입니다.

❌ You should never lie about your career in the interview.
✅ You should never lie about your career history in the interview.

"career"만으로는 불완전합니다. "career history" (경력 이력), "employment history" (고용 이력), 또는 "work experience" (업무 경험)로 구체적으로 표현하세요.

❌ The facts will come to bright eventually.
✅ The facts will come to light eventually.

"come to light"는 "밝혀지다, 드러나다"라는 관용구입니다. "bright"가 아니라 "light"입니다. 이 표현은 비밀이 결국 드러난다는 의미로 자주 사용됩니다.

Discussion

Share your thoughts with your teacher.
선생님과 의견을 나눠보세요.

  1. The reading uses the expression "Leave 'em wanting more." What does this mean in the context of an interview?
지문에서 "더 궁금하게 만들어라"라는 표현을 사용합니다. 면접 맥락에서 이것은 무슨 의미인가요?
  2. Hint #5 says "Never lie." But is there a difference between lying and choosing not to share something? Where is the ethical line?
힌트 5번은 "절대 거짓말하지 마라"고 합니다. 거짓말과 말하지 않는 것 사이에 차이가 있나요? 윤리적 선은 어디인가요?
  3. The reading says interviewers also have disclosure issues. What kind of information might a company not want to share with candidates?
면접관도 공개 이슈가 있다고 합니다. 회사가 지원자에게 공유하고 싶지 않은 정보는 어떤 것이 있을까요?
  4. What does "It's a small world" mean? Can you share an example when the world felt small to you?
"세상은 좁다"는 무슨 뜻인가요? 세상이 좁다고 느꼈던 경험을 공유해 주세요.
