발표자가 전환을 명확하게 알려주지 않아서 프레젠테이션 중에 길을 잃은 적이 있나요?

Grammar Pattern
Any presentation requires a clear strategy or plan to help you reach your objectives.
The aim is not to spend twenty minutes talking non-stop and showing a lot of nice
pictures. It is to convey a message that is worth hearing.
What is the secret to hold an audience's attention?
1. Find out about your audience and what they need to know.
2. Plan what you're going to say and say it clearly and concisely.
How?
Use various signals to help hold the audience's attention and make the information clear.
You’re lost if you lose your Audience
Any presentation requires a clear strategy or plan to help you reach your objectives.
The aim is not to spend twenty minutes o talking non stop and showing a lot of nice pictures. It is to convey a message that is worth hearing to an audience who want to
hear it.
Secret of speakers who knows how to hold audience attention:
1. Find out about the audience and what they need to know
2. Plan what you’re going to say, and say it clearly and concisely
A good speaker uses various signals to hold audiences attention and make the
information clear;
1. One type of signal is to introduce a list with a phrase like “there are three things
we need to consider..”
2. Another signaling is to give a link between parts of the presentation. For example;
that’s all I want to say about the development of the product. Now lets go..” the
technique is very helpful to the audience, including those who are mainly interested
in one part only.
3. Sequencing of information. This usually follows a logical order, perhaps base on
time. Key words in sequencing information are; first, then. Next, after that, later, at
the end, finally etc……
4. Still another technique which helps to emphasize key points is careful repetition.
Example; I’ve already said, there is no alternative but to…
5. A final point concerns timing and quantity of information.
Korean Trap
Korean speakers often make this mistake in presentation English.
한국어의 '다음으로 가다'를 직역하여 'go to the next part'라고 하면 어색합니다. 프레젠테이션에서 섹션 전환 시 move on to, turn to, proceed to가 프로페셔널한 표현입니다. 'go to'는 물리적 이동에 주로 사용합니다.
Discussion
Discuss these questions with your teacher after reading.
- The passage says the aim is to "convey a message that is worth hearing." How do signals and signposting help achieve this goal compared to just presenting information in order?
본문에서 목적은 '들을 가치가 있는 메시지를 전달하는 것'이라고 합니다. 단순히 순서대로 정보를 나열하는 것과 비교하여, 신호와 안내 표현이 이 목적을 달성하는 데 어떻게 도움이 되나요? - The text mentions that signaling "helps nonnative speakers" follow the presentation. In international business meetings, what other techniques can help non-native English speakers understand better?
본문에서 신호 표현이 '비원어민'이 발표를 따라가는 데 도움이 된다고 합니다. 국제 비즈니스 회의에서 비원어민이 더 잘 이해하도록 돕는 다른 기법은 무엇인가요? - The passage describes two types of signals: listing and linking. Which type do you find more natural to use in English? Practice creating examples of each type.
본문에서 나열 신호와 연결 신호 두 가지를 설명합니다. 영어로 사용하기에 어떤 유형이 더 자연스러운가요? 각각의 예를 만들어 연습해 보세요. - How would you signal transitions in a 5-minute elevator pitch versus a 30-minute formal presentation? Does the length change your signposting strategy?
5분 엘리베이터 피치와 30분 공식 프레젠테이션에서 각각 전환 신호를 어떻게 사용하시겠습니까? 길이에 따라 안내 표현 전략이 달라지나요?
