Money is often said to be the permanent source
of malice for human beings. We see many people who have become slaves of money.
They think money is everything, and that they can do anything if they have enough
money. They also claim money defines oursocial status. Others think that’s not true,
even though they agree money is an important part of life. But serious problems arise
when people don’t know how to spend money. Our parents say making money is
easier than spending it, and they are afraid that “almighty” money may have bad
effects on our character. It is certainly true that spending money wisely requiresa lot

'for' 뒤에는 명사나 동명사(-ing)가 와야 합니다. 'for live'는 틀리고 'for living' 또는 'to live'가 맞습니다. 'for + -ing' vs 'to + 동사원형' 패턴을 구별하세요.

Discussion

  1. The passage calls money "the permanent source of malice for human beings." Is money itself evil, or is it how people use it that creates problems?
  2. The text says some claim money "defines our social status." In Korean society, how strongly does wealth determine social standing compared to other factors?
  3. The passage warns that "almighty money may have bad effects on our character." Can you think of examples where wealth corrupted someone's values?
  4. "Spending money wisely requires a lot of practice" -- should financial literacy be a required subject in schools?
  5. If you suddenly received a very large sum of money, what would your first financial decision be, and why?
