- The passage mentions centenarians who credit their longevity to drinking hard liquor. Do you think there is a genuine secret to long life, or is it mostly genetics and luck?
- In Korean culture, respect for the elderly is a core value. How has this attitude changed in modern Korean society?

Every so often we can read about a man or a woman who has reached an age far beyond the limits we ordinarily expect. Reports of a man in Chile or a woman in Turkey who has
celebrated the 105th or 110th birthday occur regularly. The natural question is, to what
do these people owe their longevity? Frequently, the answer concerns the fact the
ancient one liked to imbibe regularly of some hard liquor. The photograph will show an
apparently virile man or robust woman. Somehow, people who reach this advanced age
seem to remain eternally sturdy. There are no signs that they have become senile. Smoking a pipe, or sewing on some garment, these rare specimens of hardy humanity are far from the doddering we expect to see.

·Should parents continue to finance their children after the children are 18?
·In most countries women live an average of 5 to 6 years longer than men. Why do you think this is?
·In some countries having children is considered a way of "investing in the future", and young people are expected to give money to their parents when they get a job, and then to care for them when they retire. What are the good points and what are the bad points about this system?
Korean Trap! / 한국인 실수 교정
Common mistakes Korean speakers make.

- The passage notes that centenarians often attribute their longevity to alcohol. Should we take such anecdotal evidence seriously, or does it give people a false sense of security about unhealthy habits?
- The text describes these elderly individuals as "virile" and "robust" with no signs of being "senile." Does society have unrealistic expectations about what aging should look like?
- The passage calls these people "rare specimens of hardy humanity." Is longevity something to be admired, or is quality of life more important than quantity?
- With advances in medicine, the average lifespan is increasing. What challenges does an aging population create for society?
- Korea is experiencing one of the fastest aging rates in the world. How should society prepare for a future where centenarians are common?
