Reading

선생님과 함께 지문을 읽어보세요.

The consumer is in a quandary about making a felicitous selection among the array of products. The advertisers must influence the malleable consumer, and often they do it in the most callous ways. Television offers many tangible advantages for reaching the consumer. As a result, the consumer is inundated by commericals. The advertiser knows that a television commercial is the most expedient way to reach large numbers of people. The cost for each commercial film is prodigious, but because the audience is so large, the cost per viewer is negligible. Each commercial is prepared in the most meticulous way in order to catch the attention of even the most blase viewer and hold it until the message is thorough.

Discussion

선생님과 의견을 나눠보세요.

  1. The passage describes the consumer as in a "quandary" among an array of products. Has the abundance of choice in modern markets made consumers more empowered or more confused?
  2. The author says advertisers influence "malleable" consumers in "callous ways." Should there be stricter regulations on advertising, or is it the consumer's responsibility to be discerning?
  3. The text notes that commercial costs are "prodigious" but cost per viewer is "negligible." How has digital advertising changed this economic equation?
  4. The passage says commercials are designed to catch even the "most blase viewer." What psychological techniques do advertisers use to capture attention, and are consumers aware of them?
  5. South Korea has one of the highest advertising expenditures per capita globally. How has this saturation affected Korean consumer behavior?
