"By promoting an increased knowledge of our past, Black History Month in February is an excellent way to help shape the Canada of tomorrow; a country of diversity, tolerance, cooperation and democracy," said Jean Augustine, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) ( Status of Women), in celebrating the contribution of Black Canadians to the development of Canada. She also highlighted the fact that March 21 was the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. For more than 10 years, the March 21 Campaign has successfully mobilized youth across Canada to rise up and to take a stand against racism.
Discrimination: unjustifiably different treatment given to different people or groups.
Race:any of the major divisions of humankind distinguished by a particular set of physical characteristics, such as size, hair type or skin color.
Racism:hatred, rivalry or bad feeling between races.
Prejudices:a biased opinion, based on insufficient knowledge.
Reduce:to make or become less, smaller etc.
Cope:to manage, to deal with and attempt to overcome problems and difficulties
Superior:(1) better in some way, (2) higher in rank or position
Adopt:to take (a child of other parents) into one’s own family, becoming its legal parent.
Culture: the customs, ideas, values, etc of a particular civilization, society or social group, especially at a particular time.

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ I was discriminated because of my race.
✅ I was discriminated against because of my race.

한국어로는 "차별받았다"라고 한 단어처럼 쓰지만, 영어에서 discriminate는 반드시 전치사 against와 함께 써야 합니다. "discriminate someone"이라고 하면 문법적으로 틀린 표현이에요. 항상 "discriminate against someone" 또는 수동태로 "be discriminated against"라고 기억하세요.
