Warm-up

Talk about these questions with your teacher.

  1. Do you think time is something real that exists around us, or is it just a concept humans invented to organize life?
  2. When does time seem to pass the slowest for you, and when does it seem to fly by the fastest?

Reading

A contrasting view is that time is part of the fundamental intellectual structure (together with space and number) within which we sequence events, quantify the duration of events and the intervals between them, and compare the motions of objects. In this view, time does not refer to any kind of entity that "flows", that objects "move through", or that is a "container" for events. This view is in the tradition of Gottfried Leibniz[2] and Immanuel Kant,[3][4] in which time, rather than being an objective thing to be measured, is part of the mental measuring system. The question, perhaps overly simplified and allowing for no middle ground, is thus: is time a "real thing" that is "all around us", or is it nothing more than a way of speaking about and measuring events?
Time - the system of those sequential relations that any event has to any other, as past, present, or future; indefinite and continuous duration regarded as that in which events succeed one another.
Early - in or during the first part of a period of time, a course of action, a series of events
Late - occurring, coming, or being after the usual or proper time
Schedule - a plan of procedure, usually written, for a proposed objective, esp. with reference to the sequence of and time allotted for each item or operation necessary to its completion
On time - the system of those sequential relations that any event has to any
In Time - the system of those sequential relations that any event has to any other, as past, present, or future; indefinite and continuous duration regarded as that in which events succeed one another.
Appointment -a fixed mutual agreement for a meeting; engagement
Busy - actively and attentively engaged in work or a pastime
To the end of time -is an extravagant way of saying forever.
Sands of time - time runs out either through something reaching an end or through a persons death.
Some other time - they mean at some indefinite time in the future, possibly never, but they certainly don’t want to be obliged to fix a specific time or date.
Question of time - It’s certain to happen, though we don’t know exactly when.
Nick of time - you do it at the very last minute or second.
Good time - you managed travel faster than you expected
Tears before Bed time - When something seems certain or to go wrong or cause trouble.
Time of your life - you are enjoying yourself very much indeed.
Do you prefer to show up late or early?
What is your busiest day of the week?
Do you like to be busy, or do you like to have an easy schedule?
What takes up most of your time?
Do you think you manage your time wisely?
Do you manage time, or does time manage you?
What do you do if you show up too early for something?
What do you do if you show up too late for something?
What do you do if you forget an appointment?
Do you spend a lot of time when preparing for something?
How much time do you spend sleeping? Do you wish you could sleep more?
Does waiting for something bother you?
Do you get bored easily?
Do you schedule out what you have to do every week? Do you make a schedule for every day?
Are you good at getting things done on time?
Do you think time moves slowly or quickly?
What would you do if you had a few extra hours in a day?
Would you rather have more time or more money?
In your culture, is it polite to always show up on time, or to show up a little late?
How important is time in your culture?

Korean Trap! /

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.

❌ "I don't have time" → "I have no time" (어색한 직역)
✅ "I don't have enough time" or "I'm running out of time."

한국어에서 '시간이 없다'를 그대로 번역하면 "I have no time"이 되지만, 영어에서는 상황에 따라 "I don't have enough time" 또는 "I'm running out of time"이 훨씬 자연스럽습니다.

❌ "The time is going fast."
✅ "Time flies." or "Time goes by quickly."

영어에서는 관용 표현인 "Time flies"를 가장 많이 쓰며, 좀 더 길게 말하고 싶다면 "Time goes by quickly"가 자연스럽습니다. 'go fast'는 시간보다는 자동차 같은 물체의 속도에 주로 씁니다.
