President George W. Bush urged immigrants to the United States to master English in order to "better understand our national character and participate fully in American life."
"We also know that America has thrived as a nation because we've always welcomed newcomers, who in turn embrace our values and our way of life," the president said during a speech at a "Cinco de Mayo" celebration honoring Mexican and Mexican-American culture.
But, he said, "those who come here to start new lives in our country have a responsibility to understand what America is about, and the responsibility to learn the English language so they can better understand our national character and participate fully in American life."
im·mi·gra·tion [ immi graysh'n ] (plural imm·i·gra·tions)- arrival of settlers in new country: the act of entering a new country to settle permanently.
passport control: the control point at an airport, seaport, or border crossing where people entering a country must stop top have their passport officially checked. It's my mother tongue - It is my native language.

한국어에서는 '이민하다'라는 단어 하나로 표현하지만, 영어에서는 방향에 따라 단어가 다릅니다. immigrate는 다른 나라에 '들어가서' 정착하는 것이고, emigrate는 자기 나라를 '떠나는' 것입니다. 예를 들어, "He emigrated from Korea and immigrated to Canada."처럼 구분해서 써야 합니다.
