CRAZY ROOM
Last night my bedroom went crazy. I opened the door and I could not believe my eyes;
the bed was hanging from the ceiling . The clock was there, too, behind the pillow. The
room was totally nuts, all mixed up; the rug was standing straight up against the wall and
in front of it was the lamp, only it was off the floor and sideways upon the wall.
My books were in a messy pile on the floor with the bookshelf leaning on them. The
telephone was inside the wastepaper basket. The TV was upside-down and underneath
the bureau. The bureau, inexplicably, was floating above the television. The table
was lying on its side on the floor. And finally, the picture was face down on the floor.
The whole chamber was completely insane. I did not know what to do,
so I went to get my mother. I found my mother and told her about the room. So, we went to look. As we peered
around the corner, to my surprise, the chamber was perfectly normal. The table was
upright with the telephone upon it. The trash barrel was empty. Thankfully, the bureau
was on the floor. The TV was atop the bureau and not beneath it. My books were neatly
shelved on the bookshelf which was firmly attached to the wall. The clock was in its
original position. The lamp was vertical, again, and next to the door. The picture of
Great granduncle Napoleon was face forward and hung on the wall. The bed was off
the ceiling and down to earth once more. And, the rug was lying on the ground near
the bed. Everything was back to its usual place.
My mother said that maybe I was working too hard

Korean Trap! /

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.

❌ The bed was hanging in the ceiling.
✅ The bed was hanging from the ceiling.

Discussion

Discuss with your teacher.

  1. If you opened your bedroom door and everything was upside-down like in the story, what would you do first?
  2. The narrator went to get his mother for help. Who do you usually go to when something strange or unexpected happens?
  3. When the narrator came back with his mother, the room was perfectly normal again. Have you ever experienced something that no one else believed?
