한국어에서는 '퇴직하다'를 넓은 의미로 사용하지만, 영어에서 retire는 나이가 들어 은퇴하는 것만을 뜻합니다. 자발적으로 직장을 그만두는 것은 resign 또는 quit을 사용해야 합니다. "He retired at 65"는 정년퇴직이고, "He resigned to pursue other opportunities"는 자발적 사직입니다.
