Lesson46: BEFORE, AFTER, DURING, AND WHILEA. You can use before/after + -ing (before going / eating, etc.).
1. Before' means 'before that moment'. It is important to remember that 'before'
takes either the simple past OR the present.
2. 'After' means 'after that moment'. It is important to remember that 'after' takes the present for future events and the past OR past perfect for past events.
B. We use during + noun (during the movie).
Duringis used to represent the length of time of an action that is while the action is happening.
C. We use while + verb (while I'm watching).
'While means 'during that time'. 'While is usually used with the past continuous
D. Use for (no during) + a period of time (three days / two hours / a year, etc.). We didn't speak during the meal. But
We didn't speak while we were eating. (not during we were eating.)
We played tennis for two hours. (not during two hours)
I lived in Londonfor a year. (not during a year)
I always have breakfast before going to work. (= before I go to work)
Before eating the apple, I washed it carefully.(not before to eat)
I started work after reading the newspaper. (not after to read)

한국어 "~동안"은 모든 경우에 쓸 수 있지만, 영어에서 구체적인 시간(two hours, three days)에는 "for"를 사용합니다. "during"은 명사 앞에만 씁니다 (during the movie, during lunch).
