한국어로 '비용을 부담하다'를 직역하면 'pay the bill'만 떠올리기 쉽지만, 영어에서는 'foot the bill'이라는 고정된 표현(collocation)이 있습니다. 'foot'을 동사로 사용하는 것이 핵심이며, 'pay the foot'처럼 순서를 바꾸면 전혀 다른 의미가 됩니다. 비즈니스 영어에서는 이처럼 동사와 명사의 올바른 조합(collocation)을 익히는 것이 매우 중요합니다.
