probationary period A trial period during which a new employee's performance is evaluated before permanent hiring. 수습 기간 During the three-month probationary period, your manager will assess whether you are a good fit for the team.
workforce reduction The process of decreasing the number of employees in a company, often due to financial difficulties. 인력 감축 The workforce reduction affected over 200 employees across multiple departments.
grievance A formal complaint made by an employee about unfair treatment or working conditions. 고충, 불만 사항 The employee filed a grievance with HR after being repeatedly denied overtime pay.

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ I was fired out from the company last month.
✅ I was laid off from the company last month.

한국어에서 '해고되다'와 '정리해고되다'를 구분 없이 사용하는 경우가 많습니다. 영어에서는 fired는 본인의 잘못이나 성과 부진으로 해고당하는 것이고, laid off는 회사 구조조정 등 본인 잘못 없이 해고되는 것입니다. 또한 "fired out"이라는 표현은 없으며, 전치사 없이 fired 또는 fired from이라고 합니다.
