I. Subject Matter: TOEIC Speaking Part 2 : Describe a picture
II. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:
Create coherent description of the photo given (page 5)Create appropriate sentences in describing each part by following the steps
III. Procedure:
a. Discuss the steps in answering this part of the exam.
Step 1: Create introductory sentence that answers WH-question for the picture. Phrases that can be used :
This is a picture.....In this picture...What I can see in this picture...
Step 2: Locate the main subject of the photo. Create sentences regarding the main subject. (location, feature, action). The main characters are mostly in the middle.
*Use Present continuous or there is/are + verb-ing*Present simple or there is/are
Step 3: Look at the remaining details in the photo. Create sentences regarding the remaining details. Don’t forget to use transitional words and phrases to show cohesion.
EX: On the left part/side of the picture On the right part/side of the picture In the foreground of the picture In the background of the picture On either side of the picture At the left of the picture On the right-hand side of the picture At the bottom right of the picture At the top left of the picture In the middle
Step 4: Give extra information about the picture: What is happening, has happened or will happen. This can serve as your closing statement
b. Ask the student to describe the picture on page 5 and then compare the students answer with the model answers.
Model Answer:
Step 1: This is a picture of a man pitching a yellow tent in the snow.
Step 2: He is wearing a camouflaged snowsuit and a winter hat. Under his snow suit, you can see a beige sweater. And, on his feet, he has snow boots.
Step 3: In the background, you can see snow-filled pine trees. In the foreground, you can see a dog standing in the snow.
Step 4: I think the man is quite adventurous to camp in the snow.

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
사진을 묘사할 때 현재진행형(be + V-ing)을 사용해야 합니다. 한국어에는 진행형 구분이 뚜렷하지 않아서 "is sit", "is stand"처럼 동사원형을 그대로 쓰는 실수가 많습니다. 반드시 be동사 뒤에 -ing 형태를 붙여 "is sitting", "is standing"으로 표현하세요.
