I. Subject Matter: TOEIC Speaking Part 2 : Describe a picture
II. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:
Create coherent description of the photo given (page 53)
III. Procedure:
a. Ask the student to describe the picture on page 53 and then compare the students answer with the model answers.
b. Correct the students answer by basing it from the model answer and steps given.
c. Ask the student to describe the photo again and this time the teacher will time the student.
Model Answer:
Step 1: This is a picture of two people paddling their canoe down a river.
Step 2:. Both people are wearing orange life jackets and they are each holding an oar.
Step 3: The greenish-blue river seems very wide and placid. In the background, you can see many evergreen trees on the shore. You can also see a snow-capped mountain.
Step 4: The whole scene is very beautiful, and peaceful. This must be an awe inspiring canoe trip.

Korean Trap! / 한국인 실수 교정

Common mistakes Korean speakers make when describing pictures.
사진 묘사할 때 한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ "There are two people ride a canoe in the river."
✅ "There are two people riding a canoe down a river."

사진 묘사에서 "There are + 사람 + 동작"을 표현할 때, 동사원형이 아닌 현재분사(-ing)를 사용해야 합니다. 한국어에서는 "타고 있다"와 "타다"의 구조 차이가 크지 않아서 영어에서도 동사원형을 그대로 쓰는 실수를 자주 합니다. 사진 속 진행 중인 동작은 항상 "-ing" 형태로 표현하세요.

❌ "The behind has many trees and a mountain."
✅ "In the background, there are many trees and a mountain."

한국어의 "뒤쪽에는"을 직역하여 "the behind"라고 하는 경우가 많습니다. 영어로 사진의 뒷배경을 설명할 때는 반드시 "In the background"라는 표현을 사용하세요. TOEIC Speaking에서 높은 점수를 받으려면 이런 위치 표현을 정확히 쓰는 것이 중요합니다.
