한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
신용 신청서에서 'employed by'는 "~에 고용되어 있다"는 뜻으로, 전치사 'by'를 사용합니다. 한국어의 "~에서 일하다"를 직역하여 'in'을 쓰는 경우가 많지만, 'employed'와 함께 쓸 때는 반드시 'by'를 써야 합니다. 또한 현재까지 계속 근무 중이라면 현재완료 진행형(have been employed)을 사용해야 합니다.
금액을 표기할 때 한국인 학습자들은 'dollar'를 단어로 풀어 쓰는 경향이 있습니다. 신용 신청서와 같은 공식 서류에서는 달러 기호($)를 숫자 앞에 붙여 쓰는 것이 표준입니다. 또한 금액이 복수일 때도 'dollars'로 쓸 필요 없이 기호로 표기하면 됩니다.
한국어에는 관사(a, an, the)가 없기 때문에 영어 서류 작성 시 관사를 빠뜨리는 실수가 잦습니다. 'obligation'은 가산 명사이므로 'an'이 필요하고, 금액 앞에는 전치사 'of'를, 회사 앞에는 부정관사 'a'를 써야 자연스러운 문장이 됩니다.
