I especially would like to point out that I graduated Cum Laude from The University of Tacoma and was hired directly upon graduation due to my expertise in port authority regulations.
During the four years that I worked for Shoreman and Co., I furthered deepened my knowledge of the fast changing regulatory laws in our state. My employer also thought highly enough of my abilities to promote me to head legal researcher after my first year of employment.

Korean Trap! / 한국인 실수 교정

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ I am writing to you in response to your advertisement for a Legal Assistant position. I am hoping you to give me a chance.
✅ I am writing to you in response to your advertisement for a Legal Assistant position. I hope you will consider my application.

한국어에서 "기회를 주시길 바라고 있습니다"를 직역하여 "I am hoping you to give me a chance"라고 쓰는 경우가 많습니다. 영어에서 hope는 "hope + that절" 또는 "hope to + 동사원형" 구조로 써야 하며, "hope + 목적어 + to부정사" 형태는 문법적으로 틀립니다. 또한 커버레터에서는 "give me a chance"처럼 직접적으로 부탁하는 표현보다 "consider my application"과 같이 격식 있는 표현을 사용하는 것이 적절합니다.

❌ I am interesting in the position advertised in the newspaper.
✅ I am interested in the position advertised in the newspaper.
