Warm-up

Talk about these questions with your teacher.

  1. Have you ever had to renegotiate a contract or an agreement with someone? What happened?
  2. When a business partner cannot keep a promise, do you think it's better to be flexible or to strictly follow the original terms? Why?

THANKS FOR BEING FLEXIBLE ON THIS MATTERA: I'm sorry Mr. Son but our sales for this year have fallen short of our projections.
B: I understand nevertheless our contract clearly signed by you in good faith clearly stipulates that your company will buy a set number of units each month.
A: Yes, but we simply cannot afford to abide by the contract in this quarter. That doesn't mean that we don't greatly value our business relationship with your company.
B: The same goes for us. How do you suggest we make this relationship work?
A: My organization wants to avoid committing a breach the contract at our cost. Is there any possibility that we could renegotiate the contract?
B: That may be possible. Let's see if we can hammer out a new contract by next week.
A: Thanks for being flexible on this matter. I hope that we reach an agreement that we both can live with.

Korean Trap! /

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.

❌ "We want to avoid to commit a breach of contract."
✅ "We want to avoid committing a breach of contract."
