Warm-up

Talk about these questions with your teacher.

  1. Have you ever had to stick to your guns at work or school, even when others disagreed with you? What happened?
  2. If you believed your work was a cut above the rest, how would you convince your boss to give you a raise?

Sam: It's that time of the year again. Performance evaluation time.
Jane: I know, and this time I'm going to ask for a raise when my meeting comes around, i'm gonna get whats coming to me.
Sam: You sound pretty sure of yourself Jane, but management is always a tough cookie when it comes to uping people's pay, you know.
Jane: You don't have to remind me. They turned me down last time I asked for a raise, but this time I'm going to stick to my guns.
Sam: What makes you so certain you'll get a boost in salary?
Jane: I just know in my heart that the work I've been doing this year is a cut above, plus I have taken on a load of extra responsibilities in the past six months. They have to give me what I'm due.
Sam: Well I hope it all work out. The best of luck to you.
Jane: Thanks Sam.

Korean Trap! /

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.

❌ I will stick my gun this time and ask for a raise.
✅ I'm going to stick to my guns this time and ask for a raise.

"Stick to my guns"는 항상 stick to + my/your/his guns 형태로 써야 합니다.
