Two passengers are having a conversation inside the bus.
Hilary: How long does it take to get from Tokyo to Osaka?
Haniver: It takes around 45 minutes to get from Tokyo to Osaka. Are you going to Osaka?
Hilary: Yes, I am just wondering how much it costs going there? How much is the fare?
Haniver: It costs around 4 dollars.
Hilary: What if I take the subway, how much will I pay?
Haniver: If you take the subway going to Osaka, it’s 6 dollars.
Hilary: How long will it take to travel by subway?
Haniver: It takes less than twenty minutes.
Hilary: So, it’s better for me to take the subway if I’m in a hurry.
Haniver: Certainly, but it’s more expensive than the fare in the bus.

Korean Trap! /

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.

❌ How long does it take to go there by walking?
✅ How long does it take to walk there?

하지만 영어에서는 "by + 교통수단(by bus, by subway)"은 자연스럽지만, "by walking"은 어색합니다. 걸어가는 경우에는 "walk there" 또는 "go there on foot"이라고 표현하세요.

❌ How much is it the money to Osaka?
✅ How much is the fare to Osaka?

를 영어로 옮길 때 "How much is it the money?" 영어에서는 교통비를 물을 때 "How much is the fare?" 또는 간단히 "How much does it cost?"

❌ I will ride the bus to Osaka.
✅ I will take the bus to Osaka.

"Ride"도 완전히 틀린 것은 아니지만, 대중교통을 이용한다는 의미로는 "take the bus / take the subway"가 훨씬 자연스러운 표현입니다.
