Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
한국어로는 "개인적인 문제가 나를 괴롭힌다"처럼 단수로 표현하지만, 영어에서는 여러 고민거리를 뜻할 때 personal issues처럼 복수형을 자연스럽게 씁니다. 또한 "문제가 계속 신경 쓰인다"는 진행 상태를 나타내므로 현재완료진행형 have been bothering me를 사용해야 합니다. 단순 현재형 "is bothering"보다 그 고민이 지속되어 온 느낌을 훨씬 잘 전달합니다.
한국어 어순은 "어떻게 세상에 너 그걸 알았어?"처럼 주어 뒤에 동사가 오지만, 영어 의문문에서는 반드시 조동사(did) + 주어 + 동사원형 순서를 지켜야 합니다. "How in the world"처럼 강조 표현이 들어가도 의문문의 도치 규칙은 변하지 않습니다. "you knew"처럼 평서문 어순을 쓰면 문법적으로 틀린 문장이 됩니다.
한국어로 "정상에 있다"를 직역하면 전치사를 빠뜨리기 쉽지만, 영어에서는 at the top of처럼 반드시 전치사 at과 관사 the를 함께 써야 합니다. 또한 "everyday"는 "일상적인"이라는 형용사이고, "매일"이라는 부사 의미로는 every day (두 단어)로 띄어 써야 합니다.
