❌ "I heard the news around the office that you got promoted."
✅ "I understand that the word around the office is that you landed the promotion."

한국어로 '소문'이라고 하면 단순히 "news"라고 번역하기 쉽지만, 영어 비즈니스 표현에서는 "the word around the office"가 '사내에 도는 이야기'라는 뜻의 자연스러운 관용 표현입니다. 또한 '승진하다'를 "got promoted"로만 알고 있는 경우가 많지만, "landed the position"은 노력 끝에 자리를 얻었다는 뉘앙스를 담고 있어 비즈니스 대화에서 더 적절합니다.

❌ "The problems need to be solved before we sign the paper."
✅ "The issues need to be ironed out before you sign on the dotted line."

한국인 학습자들은 '해결하다'를 항상 "solve"로 직역하는 경향이 있습니다. 비즈니스 영어에서는 협상이나 세부 사항을 조율할 때 "iron out"이라는 표현을 자주 씁니다. 또한 계약서에 서명한다는 표현을 "sign the paper"라고 하기 쉬운데, "sign on the dotted line"이 공식 계약 체결을 의미하는 정확한 관용 표현입니다.
