MAN: You look less than pleased that Mr. Kim was promoted to supervisor.
WOMAN: That¡¯s an understatement! I had to bite my tongue!
MAN: Haven¡¯t you worked here longer than he has?
WOMAN: Not only that, I trained him!
MAN: He sure rose to the ranks quickly. Don¡¯t you think he¡¯s management material?
WOMAN: I think he¡¯s perfect management material if you consider the fact that most managers know less about day to day operations and the people working for them.
MAN: Just why did he get promoted then?
WOMAN: Because he¡¯s a perfect cog in the machine, he licks the boots of his superiors and terrorizes people below him.
MAN: The buzz in the office is that someone in upper management is taking him under his wing.

한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
한국어에서는 "감독관으로 승진했다"처럼 '~으로'를 사용하기 때문에, 영어에서도 "as"를 쓰기 쉽습니다. 하지만 영어에서는 직위로의 승진을 나타낼 때 "promoted to + 직함"을 사용합니다. 참고로 "to" 뒤에는 관사(a/the) 없이 직함만 쓰는 것이 자연스럽습니다.
