Emma: Use the subway. Line number three. Where are you coming from?
Jamal: I’m coming from Shanghai’s hotel.
Emma: You can take the blue line over to Shanghai’s station and catch line three there.
Or you can take line six over to Beijing station and transfer to line three there.
Jamal: I think going to Shanghai is better. It’s only four stops from here.
Emma: That’s a good idea.
Jamal: Is the shopping mall far from Shanghai station?
Emma: It’s a little bit far like three blocks away from the subway.
Jamal: Can I walk going there?
Emma: Yes, if you want to but you can take a taxi. It will only take less than five minutes.
The fare is cheap.
Jamal: Do you know how much?
Emma: It’s not more than two dollars.

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
한국어에서는 지하철을 '타다'라고 해서 영어로 직역하면 "ride"를 쓰기 쉽습니다. 하지만 영어에서는 대중교통을 이용할 때 "take"를 씁니다. "Take the subway", "Take a taxi", "Take the bus"처럼 표현하세요. "Ride"는 자전거나 말처럼 직접 조종하거나 올라타는 것에 주로 씁니다.
한국어의 '환승하다'를 영어로 옮길 때 "change"를 쓰는 경우가 많습니다. 영국식 영어에서는 가능하지만, 본문처럼 미국식 영어에서는 "transfer to + 노선"이 훨씬 자연스럽습니다. "I need to transfer to line three at Beijing station."처럼 사용하세요.
한국어에서 '몇 정거장'이라고 할 때 "station"을 떠올리기 쉽지만, 영어에서는 거리를 셀 때 "stops"를 씁니다. 또한 "How many stops?"만으로는 문장이 불완전하므로, 본문처럼 "It's only four stops from here."와 같이 "It's + 숫자 + stops" 패턴을 사용하세요.
