Unit 2-17 / Part 2
There is an English expression, “home, sweet home”. It simply means,
“There is no place like home.” For some people home may be their current
place of residence; for others, it may be the actual geographical location
where they spent their early childhood. For the former, coming home from
work or a camping trip may give them the satisfaction of returning to their
familiar, comfortable environment. For the latter, the history and memories
related to their childhood hometown may be what they want to retrieve.
Comprehension Check
Answer the questions about what you read.
읽은 내용에 대한 질문에 답해 보세요.
- Where is your home?
- Is your current home still in your hometown, or far away?
- Why do you think people return to a place they call ‘home’?
- Who shares your home?
- What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think ‘home’? Geographical : Geographical or geographic means concerned with or relating to geography. The latter : When two people, things, or groups have just been mentioned, you can refer to the second of them as the latter.
Korean Trap! / 한국인 실수 교정
Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
한국어로 '나중에 다시 보자'를 직역하면 전치사 'with'를 빠뜨리기 쉽습니다. 'catch up'은 자동사구이기 때문에 사람 앞에 반드시 'with'가 필요합니다. "catch up you"가 아니라 "catch up with you"로 말해야 자연스러운 영어 표현이 됩니다.
한국 학생들은 'had better'에서 'had('d)'를 자주 생략합니다. 일상 회화에서 "You better..."로 줄여 쓰는 경우도 있지만, 올바른 문법은 "You'd better"입니다. 특히 시험이나 격식 있는 상황에서는 반드시 "had better" 또는 축약형 "'d better"를 사용하세요.
