save는 from과 함께 쓰여서 ~을 모면하게 하다, ~로 부터 구하다라는 의미가 있지만, 여기서는
~에 돈이나 시간을 소모(spend)하는데 있어서 절약해준다는 의미로 save를 사용하고 있다.

For the past two years, the top scores in various national examinations
have been achieved by women. In addition, the overall percentage of
women among the successful candidates has steadily increased.
A possible reason for this increase is because there is no active prejudice
against women in such examinations.
