I used to play basketball a lot, but now I don’t play as much as before.

과거의 습관적인 행동을 나타내어 ‘언제나~했다’, ‘하곤 했다’는 뜻으로 쓰이기도 하고 현재와
대조적으로 이전의 사실, 상태를 나타내어 ‘이전에는~이었다’라는 뜻으로 쓰인다.

The common salary man in Korea lives in fear of early retirement. While
retirement in most other countries means rest and relaxation, it is something
to be in fear of in Korea. Consequently, many people with stable jobs are
scrambling to upgrade their skills so that they can keep working for as long
as possible.

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.
'used to' 뒤에는 반드시 동사원형이 와야 합니다. 한국어에서는 '~하곤 했다'로 해석되기 때문에 '-ing' 형태를 붙이는 실수를 자주 합니다. 'be used to -ing'(~에 익숙하다)와 혼동하지 않도록 주의하세요. 은퇴 전 과거 습관을 말할 때는 항상 'used to + 동사원형'을 사용합니다.
