Unit 2-19 / Part 2
A picture tells a thousand words. An expression on one’s face can
immediately give away his/her feelings. A tight hug could transfer a genuine
compassion more than any expression possible. There is more to language
than mere words ? though the words themselves are important as well ? and
every move we make reveals something more about our beings, and our
hearts.

Korean Trap! / 한국인 실수 교정

Common mistakes Korean speakers make.
한국인이 자주 하는 실수를 알아봅시다.

❌ I was thoroughly absorbed at reading comics.
✅ I was thoroughly absorbed in reading comics.

한국어로 '~에 빠지다'를 영어로 옮길 때, 전치사 'at'이나 'to'를 쓰는 실수가 많습니다. 'absorbed'는 항상 전치사 in과 함께 쓰입니다. 'be absorbed in + 명사/동명사(-ing)' 형태를 통째로 외워 두세요.

❌ A picture tells thousand words.
✅ A picture tells a thousand words.

한국어에는 관사가 없기 때문에 'thousand' 앞에 'a'를 빠뜨리는 경우가 많습니다. 영어에서 'a thousand'는 '천(1,000)'이라는 수량을 나타내는 하나의 표현이므로 반드시 'a'를 붙여야 합니다. 이 표현은 고정된 관용구이므로 'A picture tells a thousand words.'로 통째로 기억하세요.
